52 Years After Martial Law: Heighten Solidarity with the Philippine Revolution Until Liberation!
On September 21, 2024, we mark 52 years since dictator Marcos Sr. declared Martial Law in the Philippines, unleashing a reign of state fascism that targeted all forms of dissent. Today, the Filipino people face similar tyranny and repression under his son, Marcos Jr., whose regime continues the brutal policies of “counterinsurgency” inherited from his father and backed by U.S. imperialism.
Despite pretending to ‘clean up’ his family’s name and present a ‘friendlier’ face to foreign governments than the previous Duterte administration, the current regime continues to employ the same repressive state machinery and tactics, including the use of enforced disappearances of activists and peace consultants, militarization and bombing of rural communities – just as in the dark days of Martial Law.
But the Filipino people have never stopped resisting. It was the Philippine revolution and the national democratic mass movement that mobilized millions to bring down the Marcos Sr. dictatorship. Today, that same revolution remains the people’s strongest weapon against U.S. imperialism, the puppet Marcos Jr. regime and all local reaction.
On August 26, members and allies of Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) rallied across continents to show our dedicated support to the Philippine revolution. The unified voices of Friends and allies underscored that as long as the Filipino people struggle for genuine national and social liberation, we will continue our comprehensive support with them.
We call on all anti-imperialists and peace-loving forces to continue to heighten all-rounded solidarity work with the Philippine revolution, so as to support the fighting Filipino masses and their National Democratic Front (NDFP) in achieving a just and lasting peace through liberation.
