Statement by Kaibigan, Seattle U.S.A. member organization of Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle, on the recent US elections and Trump victory.
Trump’s victory in the elections signals an explicit move toward fascist capture of bourgeois liberal democracy, with no genuine resistance from establishment liberals. Trump ran on anti-immigrant and racist rhetoric based in populist demagoguery. Straight out of the fascist playbook, he capitalized on people’s fear in a period of economic crisis and uncertainty.
The American people were doomed from the start of this electoral bid. With Republicans, Trump’s outright fascist march and the Democrat’s Harris’ unconditional support for the Israeli genocide of Palestinians.
A Trump win will not mean an end to US wars and conflicts overseas nor an end to increased militarization in the Asia-Pacific.
Throughout Trump’s first presidential term, his regime oversaw the ongoing Pivot to Asia and China containment strategy that aims to utilize the Philippines as a launching pad against China. He vocally supported Rodrigo Duterte’s viscous “War on Drugs,” which was in reality a war on the poor.
As US imperialism and its allies escalate violence, especially against those engaged in national liberation struggles, it is of the utmost urgency for all of us to strengthen our solidarity with oppressed peoples. We know that the Philippine ruling classes and their US imperialist overlords will not relinquish their wealth and power voluntarily. In the face of growing counterinsurgent terror, the Filipino people demonstrate that revolution is the only solution. Sacrifice is an inevitable part of this struggle, and to honor those who have given their lives, we must intensify our own efforts.
Faced with fascism and genocide carried out by Republican and Democratic parties. Let us strengthen our commitment, our revolutionary optimism and our all-rounded solidarity to the Philippine revolution and all those in the front lines of national liberation struggles from Palestine, India, Kenya, and elsewhere. Let us ensure that for every martyr killed by US backed arms, a hundred solidarity activists take up the work of supporting the Filipino people and their just revolution until liberation!
The best way that we can engage in solidarity work with the revolution in the Philippines and resist American imperialism is through organization!
