On November 30, groups from across the globe unite in action responding to the global call to action of Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) to condemn and fight back against the escalating attacks by the US-Marcos Jr. regime against National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) peace consultants and the Filipino people.
“These US-backed attacks by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines are futile against a people driven by the profound injustices perpetrated by US foreign domination, feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism, and a longing for justice and liberation. The revolutionary resolve of the Filipino people remains firm and our solidarity for their struggle also remains firm,” said Robert Reid, chairperson of FFPS.
From demonstrations to educational discussions and cultural programs, the global mobilizations condemn the fascist Marcos Jr. administration and the repressive role of US imperialism in their continuous attacks on the Filipino people. The solidarity activists highlighted that it is the NDFP, its allied organizations and the Filipino masses in struggle that are fighting for a genuine democracy in the Philippines.
“Despite the violent crimes of the US-Marcos regime, the Filipino people are fighting back! The NDFP continues to unite the Filipino people to fight for genuine national liberation and democracy, and has demonstrated to the international community not only the necessity and justness of the national democratic revolution in the Philippines, but that armed struggle is a legitimate exertion of the Filipino people’s inherent right to self-determination, as recognized through International Law,” said Dana from People Organizing for Philippines Solidarity (POPS) in the United States.
The global actions also mark the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Kabataang Makabayan on November 30, by highlighting the importance of the revolutionary youth movement in advancing the Philippine Democratic Revolution in general.
“We take great inspiration from the youth in the Philippines that continues to take up and hold high the torch of revolutionary struggle against imperialist violence and local reaction. They show clearly that there can be no just and lasting peace in the Philippines if the root causes of the people’s sufferings have not been addressed. Why else would thousands of Filipino youth answer the call to go to the countryside and serve the masses in an armed revolution, if not because they clearly see the oppressive and exploitative nature of foreign domination and local reaction?” explained Jonathan Bagot, chairperson of FFPS-CST in Canada.
From the Netherlands to the United States, from Canada to Hong Kong, the friends and allies of the Filipino people today emphasize their support for the NDFP and the Filipino people against the US-backed Marcos Jr. regime. Despite the intensification of state attacks and demonization of national liberation struggles worldwide, falsely tagging them as “terrorists”, FFPS and its allies stand steadfast with the just cause of the Filipino people.
“We must view the assault on the NDFP consultants as an assault on the Filipino people, particularly the broad masses, who they so selflessly serve. Amid these attacks, our solidarity is crucial. We amplify the call of the Filipino people for justice for the consultants who have been murdered and to free unconditionally those who have been illegally detained. We stand in full solidarity with the Filipino people’s struggles for national and social liberation,” said Robert Reid.
