The webinar highlighted to an international audience the aspirations of the Filipino people for a just and lasting peace, and explained how the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) has implemented a war of suppression against the Filipino people through counterinsurgency programs and other tools of repression, and how the GRP tries to disguise these as being for ‘peace’.
The speakers shared their information and experiences on the Filipino people’s peace agenda, the NAP-UPD ‘counterinsurgency’ programs of the Philippine government and the impact for the Filipino people on the ground. The contributions by the speakers and Q&A discussions deepened our knowledge of the concrete situation in the Philippines and remind us that despite the war of suppression, “the Filipino people are an irrepressible people.”
