As we welcome the year 2026, we reflect on 2025, a year packed with successful political work in international solidarity with the Filipino people. We’ll be sharing ten highlights to capture how we organized, mobilized, and stood alongside the Filipino people and their struggles for a just and lasting peace in the Philippines.
No.10: Supporting the campaigns and mobilizations of the Filipino people
From massive mobilizations against corruption, to protests demanding Duterte’s accountability, and actions opposing the US-led Balikatan military exercises that violate Philippine sovereignty, Filipinos both in the Philippines and abroad flooded the streets, and we stood with them. As Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS), we joined Filipino migrant organizations worldwide in protest to amplify their calls and strengthen international solidarity.
In the US, our members mobilized alongside migrants against escalating state violence and US-led militarism from the belly of the beast. FFPS solidarity groups across Europe supported overseas Filipinos supporting Duterte’s arrest and the broader struggle for accountability. Across regions, we continued to join mass mobilizations in support of genuine system change in the Philippines.
No.9: premiering ‘my friend the terrorist’ and promoting the life & legacy of ka joma
Throughout 2025 members of FFPS have hosted premieres and film screenings of the documentary “My Friend the Terrorist: A Tale of Love And Revolution” in many cities across the world. From Toronto to New York, and from Paris to Utrecht.
The film gives a glimpse into the life of the late founding chairperson of the Communist Party of the Philippines, Jose Maria “Ka Joma” Sison and his wife, Julieta de Lima. Many of those who joined the screening described how the “tale of love” is not just on Ka Joma and Ka Julie’s, but also one of “undying revolution, freedom and the people of the Philippines! It’s their legacy, life, battles and people they’ve touched… it’s love in its extendable broadest meaning.”
As we commemorate Ka Joma’s passing on the 16th of December, we reflect on another year of struggle and, even though Ka Joma is greatly missed, his numerous writings on the Philippine revolution, its experiences and practice, on Marxist-Leninist-Maoist Theory and on the world situation continue to serve as a guide not only to Philippine revolutionaries but to all anti-imperialists worldwide.
As Ka Joma wrote in his final article, ‘The Filipino People’s Democratic Revolution is invincible’ and the film brings this to life for a broad audience.
No. 8: Resisting the North atlantic trade organization (nato)
Throughout the first half of 2025, FFPS and its members succesfully participated in the Resist NATO campaign.
FFPS developed a primer on growing threat of NATO members in the Asia-Pacific region and its members held educational events, demonstrations and other activities, to highlight the importance of supporting the Philippine
revolution as a strong weapon against imperialist war.
The campaign culminated in the people’s summit on June 21, which was co-organized by FFPS. The program included a workshop on the need for solidarity to the Philippine revolution.The next day, our members joined thousands in a protest against the NATO Summit in the Hague, bringing forth the militant call to Resist NATO.
No.7: Strengthening FFPS and international solidarity with the ndfp
Since our last General Assembly in June, 2024, our global organization has grown both quantitatively and qualitatively.
In 2025 alone we were able to increase our membership by 50%. Across the globe, FFPS members continue to carry out, and escalate, their activities in solidarity with the Filipino people and their struggle for liberation. Whether through small or large campaign activities, FFPS members are gaining practice in reaching more and more people to ignite and spread the flames of solidarity with the Filipino people’s revolutionary struggle!
Strengthening FFPS as a global organization and consolidating more solidarity with the Philippine revolution, contributes to the overall support by peoples worldwide for the Filipino fighting masses.
No.6: Linking with and supporting national liberation struggles
As an integral component of our solidarity work with the Philippine revolution we have also stood and build ties last year with other movements.
As a member of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), we recognize the importance of linking and building ties of solidarity with the different struggles around the world to build a strong anti-imperialist movement against our common enemy: the US-led imperialist block.
As part of this we expressed support to national liberation struggles, from Korea to Palestine. Our members have engaged in concrete solidarity, from immersing with the Cypriot struggle and protesting operation Kagaar in India to supporting Turkish political prisoners.
No.5: supporting the peasant struggle for land and liberation
Throughout 2025 and particularly in October, peasant month in the Philippines, FFPS and its members have implemented various activities in campaigns of solidarity with the struggle of the Phililppine peasantry.
Through educational discussions, zines & art, as well as demonstrations and direct action, members from all over the world responded to the urgent call of solidarity with the Philippine peasantry. The rural poor face the brunt of the fascist repression and are on the forefront of the revolutionary struggle.
Our “Land is Life!” webinar highlighted their struggles and included contributions by the PKM, the revolutionary mass organization of Filipino peasants, as well as the NDFP itself. These underlined the revolutionary perspective of the peasants and their fervor for revolution. All of these resources can be found on our website.
No.4: News, stories and other updates on international solidarity – BFF, an initiative to learn and inspire action
In 2025 we launched our first quarterly newsletter, Balita from FFPS (or BFF) is the quarterly newsletter of Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS). Each issue includes balita (‘news’ in Filipino) from the solidarity work of our members, updates from the Philippine revolution, anecdotes from solidarity friends and members of the revolutionary movement, cultural sections, and information on upcoming FFPS activities.
Particular highlights this year were sharings by our members on the advancements of their solidarity work (from within the unions to migrant solidarity and more), our very own chairperson’s concrete solidarity contributions in the 80’s by smuggling books, as well as a special interview with Marco L. Valbuena – Chief Information Officer of the CPP.

No.3: Supporting political prisoners in the philippines
During the final months of 2025, we launched our campaign to support political prisoners in the Philippines. This campaign was launched amid worsening conditions for political prisoners, particularly NDFP Peace Consultants.
As part of this effort we co-organized a webinar to educate the international community on the situation of political prisoners, together with ICHRP. FFPS particularly highlighted the plight of the NDFP Peace Consultants and staff that have been imprisoned. You can rewatch it here: https://ffps.info/2025/12/04/political-prisoners-webinar/
Members also organized local letterwriting events highlighting imprisoned NDFP consultants, and local fundraising initiatives. The campaign will continue into 2026, so more solidarity initiatives are to follow.
No.2: Promoting the NDFP’s agenda for a genuine peace
It is the NDFP and its 12-point program that presents a real solution for a just and lasting peace. The US-Marcos regime, its military generals and the NTF-ELCAC, are not working for a genuine peace, but only stand for a war of suppression. Furthermore, it functions as a pawn of US imperialism.
Throughout 2025 members of FFPS have organized rallies at US military bases, government institutions and busy public spaces to condemn the violations of the US-Marcos regime against the Filipino people, and promote greater support to the NDFP and the revolutionary struggle. Highlights were our demonstrations on the 26th of April to celebrate the NDFP’s anniversary and our Global Day of Action on the 26th of August – participated in by over 30 organizations in more than 10 countries.
This has been accompanied by an education campaign to promote the NDFP’s genuine peace agenda. We have held online webinars and local educational discussions deepening our understanding of what a people’s peace in the Philippines means and how the 12-point program of the revolutionary movement addresses this.
No.1: The highest form of solidarity – exposure to and intergrating in the struggles of the filipino people!
FFPS is proud to have participated in the International learning and solidarity mission to the Philippines this October. Together with other delegates, FFPS members traveled and learned from communities affected by Climate Imperialism and Militarization under the war of suppression waged by the US-Marcos Jr. Regime.
Over the course of the 4 day exposure in different areas, the members integrated in peasant and indigenous communities and were exposed to their plight, like land-grabbing, displacement and destruction of livelihood in the name of private- and foreign-backed development projects. They also saw clear evidence of de-facto martial law in these areas. From day one all ISM teams experienced continuous harassment, intimidation and surveillance by state forces.
After the ISM, FFPS delegates participated in the globally and locally organized reportbacks. They shared on the extend of the militarization of communities and the brutal repression by government forces, while also highlighting the strength of the people’s movement. One thing that was common in all the reportbacks: the need to support the Philippine revolution, the true solution to all the problems faced by the Filipino people!
